How Many Does it Take to Change?

I’ve got just four quick “change-a-lightbulb” jokes for you.  How many therapists does it take to change a lightbulb?  Only one, but the lightbulb must truly want to change.  How many brewers does it take to change a light bulb?  One-third less than for a regular bulb.  How many amoebas does it take to change a light bulb?  One – no, 2 – no, 4 – no, 8!  How many Lutherans does it take to change a light bulb?  None, because we don’t believe in change!

Those jokes were simply intended to introduce the topic of change for this week’s pondering, because there is a lot of change happening right now at our church.

Here are two staff changes about which you should be aware.  Our Media Communications Coordinator, Lynn Winkleman, is taking a leave-of-absence for the summer to free up some much needed family time as her husband, Josh, returns home from his extended overseas deployment.  Solveig Nelson will be taking on her position through mid-September and will be in charge of worship bulletins, projection, and other forms of communication for FoC.  We welcome Solveig into this role, as she has already begun her work with us.

Our Minister to Youth & Families, Andie Rydberg, is expecting her third child by mid-summer, and will be taking maternity leave at that point.  Knowing we’d need extra help in her absence, we expanded the summer Youth Ministry Internship, and can now  announce that Becca Even will be taking on this role.  She’ll begin on June 10.

There are also a few updates that would be helpful for you to know as our church transitions from school year programming into summer ministry, starting with new worship times beginning May 26 with an 8:30 AM service, and a 10:00 AM service.  Summer Sunday School will begin on June 2 during the 10 o’clock hour.  We’ll hold a new member brunch on June 9, which will be fun as we normally haven’t held those during summer months.  We’ll begin our Simply Summer Wednesday evening events on June 12 which includes a meal served at 6 pm, games and activities, outdoor worship at 7 pm, and sometimes a round of Bingo.  We’ll begin a summer preaching series called “What Were They Thinking?” on June 16.  Our Only With Littles group (OWL) have set some summer picnic & park playdates. We’re seeking a new Nursery Caregiver and also a couple of new Worship Projectionists.  Plus, the Softball team soon begins its Monday night games, and the first Preschool and Children’s Ministry Camps begin in early June.  Whew!  There are a lot of changes to keep track of.

Which makes me think of one more joke.  How many aerospace engineers does it take to change a light bulb?  None.  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist, you know!

Let’s see each other in church, and though it is summer, I hope you are still are to attend often.  Yours may be the friendly face that a visitor to FoC is hoping to see!  –Pastor Josh
