Anchor Ministry

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

The Apostle Paul writes to the church of Thessalonica, in what is now modern day Greece, words of thanksgiving and words of encouragement. We could use that right about now.

Truthfully, not seeing each other has become difficult, to say it mildly. Being separated in tough times is counter-intuitive to who we are as a church family, where we often find comfort in the fellowship, support and encouragement given in times of need. And so, we need to find creative ways to be supportive of each other in these unusual and unprecedented days of a pandemic. Our answer to helping to fill this need is to create a ministry that connects us to one another giving support and stability in this stormy season of our lives. It is called Anchor Ministry.

Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight. Acts 27:29 (NIV)

We will be combining 10 or so households into an anchor group which will be led by an anchor(s) who acts as a facilitator of these groups to create “smaller families” within the greater Family of Christ. Your smaller anchor family is to serve as a source of connection, prayer and support for one another plus it is a space where we can share our struggles or celebrate our joys. In a time of physical distancing we are to remain socially and spiritually proximate to one another. In the coming days you will be contacted by your anchor to be a part of one of these groups. This is, of course, if you choose to be a part of a group and you will be given that choice. I highly encourage participation for often we do not know what we need until we need it.

We are unsure when we will be able to gather together again as we once did but until that day, I am confident through the love of God and through the love and unity of one another we can get through this together because we are better together.

Thanks be to God and thanks be to you!
