Calling All Christians

Pastor’s Periodic Pondering
by Pastor Kimberly Buffie

Pastor Kimberly Buffie, Disciple of Jesus

Peace and Grace to you,

Did you know that when I was selected to be your Associate Pastor, I received an official document referred to as “A Letter of Call”? On this Letter of Call there are specific ministries to which I am called to and accountable for at Family of Christ. These ministries include pastoral care, preaching the Word of God, proclaiming the assurance of forgiveness in the name of Jesus, presiding at the Table of the Lord, the oversight of Creation Care and the Southwest Grief Coalition as well as assist your Senior Pastor in the work of the church. In addition to those ministries I am to pray for you and the ministry to which God is calling you to.

What’s more, I am to invite, empower and help equip you for your call. That means that each of you, every one of you, has been called by God to share your unique God given gift(s) to help share the Good News of Jesus and spread the love of God through Word and Deed. Everyone of you has a gift to share that helps build this church, the greater church and the Kingdom of God here on earth.

This month, I invite you (yep, part of my call) to consider and pray how God is calling you to the ministry we share. To help in this process you might want to ask yourself and those around you “What gives me life, energy and comes easy”? This is usually how we know that we are already equipped for ministry. Then I ask you to pray for how God will use that gift in specific ways. Last month I asked you to introduce yourself to me and for that I thank you. Now, I ask that you tell me how God has uniquely gifted you for ministry. What is on your Letter of Call? This may seem boastful but when we boast in the Lord (1 Corinthians 1:31) it is simply giving glory to God. I look forward to hearing from you and getting to know more about each of you through how God has called you into living your Christian faith.

See you in worship!
