Christos 3-5th Grade
3rd-5th Grade Christos
Welcome to Christos; our education program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! This energetic age group spends time in Bible stories, prayer, music, dramatic play, and many, many service projects! More info below on meal options, music, First Communion, and worship help.
During Christos class time, third graders learn about the Bible and how to use it, while fourth & fifth graders study Bible stories and how they relate to their own lives.
This class meets Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm, during the school year. You are invited to join us for worship from 6-6:30 pm.
All students are asked to register each year for updated permissions: Register for Christos
We rely on parents to help lead these classes. All supplies/lessons are ready to go and a team of 2-3 parents per class rotate leading throughout the year. Thank you volunteers!
Meals on Wednesday Nights
Each week that there is Confirmation/Christos, we also offer dinner. This is meant to be a service to save time with all of the running around that happens during the week. New this year! The first Wednesday of the month will be home cooked meals! The menu will be posted on the link to register (examples are pasta, baked potato bar, taco/nachos, etc.). Similar to last year, all other weeks will be your choice of Subway sandwiches (ham, turkey, or tuna) and/or 2 slices of pizza (cheese, pepperoni, combo). All meals (includes unlimited milk and fruit) are $5 and are served 5-6pm. You can order week by week or by semester by clicking here. Thank you!
Fun and the Son
3rd to 5th graders will have all kinds of fun singing camp songs and praising God. To join, simply show up! We rehearse weekly on Wednesdays before Christos at 5:00pm. Garrett O’Connell will be our new director for this group. If you have questions, please contact Mary Renz, Director of Music Ministry.
Acolytes and Worship Help
Acolyte is a fancy word for an assistant during worship. At Family of Christ, acolytes wear white robes and help with lighting candles, during communion, and a few other things on Sunday mornings. It is an easy but very needed job. All 4th and 5th Graders receive acolyte training during regular class time and are invited to sign up to help at least once a year, more if you enjoy it!
Families are also invited to help with Ushering and Greeting. If you are interested, please contact Kim Schaeferle, Connections Coordinator.
First Communion is an important step in Christian faith. During regular Christos class time in January, 3rd grade students meet with Pastors and staff to talk about what Communion means and why it is important. Students also attend a Seder meal as a unique experience of food representing different prayers.
First Communion takes place on Palm Sunday or Maundy Thursday. These dates change every year based on Easter. Families, sponsors, and other special guests are invited and encouraged to attend this special experience.
As always, our program is flexible. If you are an adult or have a student outside of 3rd grade who has not received First Communion and would like more information, please contact Teri Burns, Minister to Children and Families or Pastor Josh Nelson, Senior Pastor.
