What Were They Thinking? Week 4

Periodic Pondering

In connection with this summer’s Sunday theme (What Were They Thinking), we’re inviting people to answer certain questions so we can get to know more about the folks around Family of Christ. I hope you will also ponder these questions after reading and discussing with others. -Solveig Nelson, Summer Media Specialist

What Were They Thinking?

With this middle of summer holiday week, it’s important to take a break and just live in God’s creation. One of my favorite Bible verses (and camp songs) is Psalm 46:10. “Be still, and know that I am God.” I hope you can be mindful this week and be thankful for what you have in life and enjoy these beautiful summer days. The question I asked quite a few people this past week, ranging from preschoolers to retirees, is what do you think is your happy place? (the place that gives you a sense of calm, peace, or joy). Maybe this list will give you an idea of something to do to relax, and remind yourself to take a break and be still. This is what makes congregants of Family of Christ happy:

The ocean, cat sleeping on my lap, laying in my hammock, sitting in my chair next to the fire place, knitting, Disney World (specifically the rides like Space Mountain), being at my cabin, being in nature, out on my porch, hiking, reading a good book, going for a walk, sleeping, being out on water, quilting, holding a sleeping baby, listening to music, sewing, coloring, meditation, imagining a field of flowers, gardening, Arboretum, the beach, imagining the Vikings winning the Superbowl, mountain biking, running, the North Shore (specifically the Hidden Falls), babies, ice cream, unicorn land, swimming, first morning cup of coffee, organization, the end of the dock at my cabin, the Oregon Coast, my bed, sunshine, the sound of river streams, and hiking in the Colorado Mountains.

May you all find time yet this summer to visit your happy place.
